Linda Cohn is a famed American sports reporter and broadcaster, who came to prominence as an anchor of the popular ESPN show “SportsCenter”. She joined the ESPN in 1992, and since then has grown to become one of the most prominent women sportscasters.

Linda Cohn was born on the 10 November 1959, in Long Island, New York USA; growing up she became interested in sports, and would watch sports on TV with her father, who is a huge sports fan himself. Her love for sports increased over time, and she grew keen on hockey, which she started playing at 15 years of age. Linda’s parents found a hockey league where she would be allowed to play with the boys, however, her opponents were only eight and nine-year-olds. She was a goaltender, and would join Newfield High School boy’s ice hockey team as a senior.
Following her matriculation, Linda enrolled at the State University of New York at Oswego, and obtained her bachelor’s degree in arts and communication in 1981. She continued to play ice hockey, this time as a goalie for the women’s ice hockey team. Thanks to her successful sports career in college, she was inducted into the Oswego State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
Even before her graduation, Linda started her career at the radio station WALK-AM headquartered in Patchogue, New York. She worked for the station during four years before she left, and worked for several stations, including WFAN among others. She was hired by ABC radio in 1987, and became the first full-time female sports anchor in the US.
She worked for WABC TalkRadio from 1987 to 1989, meantime in 1988 being hired by SportsChannel America, making her first on-screen appearance. After SportsChannel America, Linda joined KIRO-TV in Seattle, Washington State, where she worked as a sports anchor.
Rise to Prominence
Gradually, Linda was becoming more popular, and in 1992 her hard work paid off, as she received an offer from ESPN which she accepted, and joined its “SportsCenter” show as an anchor – her first appearance was on the 11th July 1992, next to Chris Myers. She was becoming more popular, and so started appearing in TV commercials as a part of the “This is SportsCenter commercials”.
However, she was on the verge of being fired just two years into her career with ESPN, because of her reluctant appearance in front of the camera; nevertheless, the officials gave her a second chance and hired a video coach to help her out. She earned a name for herself in 1997 when she was working as a prognosticator for the 1997 NCAA basketball tournament, where she predicted that the 15th-seeded Coppin State’s would take a win over South Carolina in the first round of the tournament. It has since been one of the most surprising underdog wins in the history of the NCAA tournament.

She was gradually becoming more popular, which earned her a contract extension with the ESPN in 2005. Her role at the station increased, as she was also appointed as a play-by-play commentator for WNBA games.
Continual Success, Suspension
Linda became a record holder on the 21st February 2016, when she hosted her 5,000th episode of “SportsCenter” – she has since also started hosting her own show “Listen Closely to Linda Cohn”. However, she made controversial comments about president Donald Trump, which caused a one-day suspension, issued by John Skipper in 2017. Nevertheless, she has since returned to her job and has signed a new contract with the network.
